Los moldes son muy fáciles de hacer, vienen de unos libros buenísimos, que vale la pena buscar. Son Sew Chic y Sew Chic Kids, de Yoshiko Tsukiori y Ruriko Yamada, respectivamente. Sus líneas simples y clásicas hacen que sean totalmente a-temporales y una joya para guardar. Los patrones vienen en un sobre, en dos hojas a doble cara, con varias tallas para cada modelo además. Los copiamos con papel mantequilla y listo.

   Esta es una idea muy simple, que no necesita quedar perfecta para verse bien. Podemos usar distintos materiales, reciclar también, todo para lograr un toque alegre para cualquier rincón de la casa o quizás para una celebración especial. ¡Me encanta como queda esta guirnalda de círculos! Elegimos unos papeles para imprimir con gradientes y nos pusimos a trabajar. Pueden encontrar otros papeles acá y acá, o hacer el suyo propio con scanner, como les enseñamos acá.

   This is a very simple idea, which doesn't need to be perfect to look super good. We can use different materials, recycle too, all for a cheerful touch to any corner of the house or perhaps for a special celebration. I love how this circle wreath turned out!    La podemos hacer con muchas figuras geométricas distintas, incluso con triángulos invertidos vamos a formar estrellas. La gracia es hacer volar la imaginación. Pero les quería mostrar esta de círculos, porque la hicimos con una herramienta súper entretenida, que llegó a la casa como una tentación, pero la hemos usado en muchísimas cosas. Esta perforadora grande, de cerca de tres centímetros de diámetro, ha hecho tarjetas de regalo, stickers de pared, invitaciones de cumpleaños, tarjetas de visita también y muchísimas guirnaldas. Cada vez le encontramos más usos y sigue cortando impecable. Las pueden encontrar también en librerías y tiendas de scrapbook.

   A veces tenemos que hacer algún pequeño regalo, de esos que queremos hacer por cariño. Quizás alguien se va de viaje, o nos hizo un favor que queremos agradecer. Y cuando está hecho por uno es original y demuestra más preocupación. Acá hay una idea: una libreta/pizarra.

   Sometimes we have to make some small gift, the kind that we care for someone. Perhaps that someone goes on a trip, or did us a favor and we want to thank. And when it's made by our own hands it's original and shows more love. Here's an idea: a chalkboard/notebook

   Como a todos nos viene bien una libreta, para el bolsillo o la cartera, vamos a aprovechar una de las propiedades de la témpera para hacerla con tapa de pizarra! Hicimos una libreta con papel reciclado, tal como mostramos hace un tiempo acá y la pintamos. Se puede limpiar con cualquier paño.

   As we all could use a notebook for our pocket or purse, we will take advantage of the properties of tempera paint to make a chalkboard cover! We make a notebook with recycled paper, as shown here some time ago, and we paint it. You can wipe it with any cloth.

   Hoy el día está precioso, tibio, el jardín lleno de amarillos y naranjos y las últimas rosas todavía brillan con el sol, dan ganas de estar afuera, de que los niños corran por ahí. Pero la mañana es otra historia: el otoño ya se tiñe de invierno y deja una capa de hielo del terror sobre todo. Da tanta pena despertar a los niños oscuro y echarlos casi corriendo a ese frío! Sí sé, soy corazón de abuelita, pero no pude resistirlo e hicimos unos guateros de arroz para que los acompañen al auto y al colegio, y puedan llevar con ellos aunque sea por un rato el calor de la casa.

   Today we have a beautiful day, warm, the garden full of yellow and orange and the last roses still shine with the sun, make you want to be outside, and the kids to run around. But mornings are another story: the fall is dyed with winter, leaving an awful layer of ice over everything.    Ayer leía sobre las tradiciones familiares y las fiestas de fin de año. Nosotros tenemos la suerte de que hace calor y las reuniones son compartidas, agradables, los niños se entretienen afuera y nosotros disfrutamos del verano con todas sus cosas ricas. En cada casa hay algún momento especial, puede ser una oración, un momento para recordar a los que no están y sus historias, quizás es cuando se abren los regalos, o cuando llega el plato de fondo a la mesa. Todas esas cosas van haciendo recuerdos que le dan sentido y trascendencia a estas fiestas, son los momentos de los cuales nos sentimos realmente agradecidos.

   Yesterday I was reading about family traditions and the end of the year holidays. We are lucky that it's warm outside and gatherings are shared, enjoyable, children play in the yard and we enjoy the summer with all its delicious things. In every house there is a special moment, may be a prayer, a moment to remind those who are not here an their life stories, perhaps when the gifts are opened, or when the main course arrives at the table. All these things are making memories that give meaning and significance to these festivities, those are the moments of which we are truly grateful.


   A veces cometemos el error de correr de un lugar a otro para alcanzar a estar en varias partes en un solo día, nos solemos enojar, pelear, y perdemos la oportunidad de ir creando nuestras propias tradiciones y recuerdos para nuestros niños. Hay algunas muy lindas que heredamos de nuestros padres, pero también podemos añadir las nuestras. Nosotros rezamos, ponemos a Jesús en el pesebre, preparamos un pic-nic para el Viejito y todos se van a acostar. Es un ritual muy esperado, hecho con cariño y con ansiedad también. Todos juran que van a quedarse despiertos en sus camas, pero luego empiezan a sonar los ronquidos. Y al día siguiente están arriba antes que el sol, nos van a despertar y esperan cada año dos cosas: un libro y un ratón. Un ratón para cada niño se quedó intruseando entre medio de los paquetes, ellos eligen el suyo y después de un rato se sientan todos a leer. Se van a acordar siempre. ¿Ustedes tienen algunas tradiciones ya?

   These are the mice that came home last Christmas. I think they are whimsical! It took an instant to make them and they are so cute I'm making thousands of them. If you fill them with rice they could make a great paper weight, if you fill them with sand they can hold the door for you, and if you fill them with cotton they can be your kid's or nephew's softie.    Este regalito es muy fácil de hacer. Es un detalle que va a hacer que se acuerden de nosotros cada vez que el que lo reciba abra su libro. Demuestra cariño y preocupación, podemos presentarlo en un cartón con un lindo envoltorio, o dentro de una tarjeta. También sirve para acompañar una libreta de apuntes o para hacer más personal el libro especial que vamos a poner entre los regalos. Busquen un poco de elástico y hagan volar su imaginación para hacer uno de estos marcadores de libro!

Una sorpresa ideal para los niños y también para los grandes, pueden ponerlas en las botas de Pascua para ocuparlas en la mañana de Navidad: pantuflas de fieltro o paño lenci! Hagan su propio molde a medida, atrévanse que les va a encantar.

  Hoy tengo dos temas que tratar. El primero es que no sé por qué no tengo la habilidad de usar medias sin romperlas. Me trato de hacer la elegante cuando hay algún evento o cuando uso vestidos en invierno y no hay caso: duran menos de un día. Puede ser algo con las tallas, pero lo más seguro es que sea yo el problema. Así que tengo algunas medias que no se pueden usar en el cajón, de ahí nace el proyecto de hoy, un bastidor para estampar géneros y papel. Con una media vieja, plumón, pegamento y pintura podemos repetir un diseño y transformar algo sin gracia en algo especial. Aunque elegí esta vez una flecha, es una súper buena idea para poner iniciales en unas servilletas y un mantel de regalo de matrimonio, o no?

Probamos con unas cajas de plástico, pero se desarmaban mucho, así que usamos esta idea hecha con restos de poleras y géneros viejos y partes de forros plásticos. Pueden hacerlas sin ningún cierre, o ponerles botones o velcro, cualquier cosa que usen la van a aprender a abrir, por comida cualquier cosa, o no? Cuando están sucios se lavan junto con la ropa y ya está! Así se hace:

Que sea un dulce día... / Hope it's a sweet day....

   Sólo me quedan dos tajadas de mi pantalón viejo después de hacer una cartera, un caballo y una bolsa para el tejido. Pero tengo dos pantalones enanos casi nuevos y que alguien que acaba de aprender a caminar en dos pies se encargó de romper. Así que con esos pedazos de mi pantalón hice unos parches para las rodillas de los de mi guagua y quedaron como nuevos otra vez!

   Como no se pueden coser a máquina, porque son muy chicos para que pueda pasar por adentro, hay que coserlos a mano. Se puede coser en la máquina con zigzag el borde del parche, para que no se deshilache, y después se hilvana al pantalón. Pero también lo podemos coser directamente con punto festón o de ojal. Si no lo saben hacer, les dejo una imagen y pueden encontrar un video acá.

   A veces no sabemos bien cómo cortar el parche, así que acá hay unos listos para imprimir y cortar para pantalones talla 12 a 24 meses, los pueden ir agrandando según lo necesiten al dibujarlo en el género.
