Cuando era chica me enfermaba bastante y la tele no era como es ahora, con monitos todo el día.  Mi mamá siempre ha sido independiente, es pintora y se concentra con facilidad en lo que está haciendo y ahí se puede quedar un buen rato. Por lo tanto, quedaba yo sola para entretenerme. Mis manos llegaron rápido a los libros de arte de la casa, un tesoro que no terminaba nunca de mostrarme cosas nuevas: formas colores, expresiones, personas, lugares... Además hacían que me hiciera muchas preguntas, que quisiera prender más de tantas cosas! Porque venían algunas explicaciones, pero a veces eran bien enigmáticas.

   Hoy trato de que mis hijos tengan esa misma posibilidad y tienen permiso para tomar todos los libros, especialmente los de arte, están todos al alcance de ellos. Sin embargo hay que reconocer que pueden ser muy caros y que a veces no hay suficiente lugar para ellos en la casa, porque son grandes. Ahí es donde entra este dato buenísimo: existe un lugar donde podemos bajar más de 400 libros gratis de arte, hechos a partir de las exposiciones e investigaciones más importantes del Metropolitan Museum of Art de Nueva York!  Todo el catálogo de producción propia fue puesto por el museo a disposición del público para que sea aprovechado y pretenden expandirse aún más a otras publicaciones de interés.

   Pueden perderse un buen rato en el catálogo y escoger los que más les gusten, los descargan en PDF para verlos con toda facilidad desde su casa. Lo ideal es verlos en un tablet, para que se parezca más a un libro, pero desde el computador funciona muy bien también. 

   Si necesitan cambiar de formato, existen varios sitios que transforman archivos PDF a MOBI o EPUB, hechos para dispositivos móviles, sólo hay que buscarlos en google. Ya no hay excusa, disfrutemos del arte esta semana!! Si te gustó el dato, compártelo, sé generoso ;^)

En el sitio podemos descargar gratis las imágenes que nos gustan para imprimirlas en el tamaño que queramos, las enmarcamos o colgamos usando la creatividad. Hay para todos los gustos.

   Una de nuestras aplicaciones preferidas es una gratis, Paper by 53, que nos deja dibujar y crear en el Ipad con la ambiciosa idea de comportarse como el papel. Después de haber logrado posicionarse, dieron el siguiente paso, al anunciar que lo que teníamos dibujado se podría transformar en un libro real impreso, con Book by 53. Y ahora, en el broche de oro que completa el proyecto, lanzaron un artefacto que revoluciona el uso de la tableta: Pencil by 53, un lápiz que se conecta a la aplicación a través de Bluetooth, completando la experiencia de dibujo de la forma más parecida posible a la realidad.    El Rijksmuseum de Ámsterdam tiene una herramienta increíble y muy generosa. A través de Rijks Studio accedemos a fotos en alta resolución de su colección, las podemos descargar, marcar como favoritas y hacer una colección, las podemos recortar y trabajar las imágenes, haciendo nuestra propia versión para usarla en lo que queramos. Todavía no está digitalizada toda la colección del museo, pero prometen llegar al millón de piezas en un par de años. Qué tal una gigantografía con un cuadro de algún maestro flamenco? Precioso! Pura inspiración! Sólo tienen que inscribirse como usuarios y explorar todo lo que quieran.

   These days I've read some things that together made much sense to me, does it happen to you sometimes? First I read an article about how art is changing as a result of instant gratification we seek in entertainment and media. Then one explaining that we don't help our kids when we only praise their qualities, but when we also celebrate their efforts and achievements involved. And finally I came across one that asked if we let our kids get bored.

   Crecí en una casa con mucha actividad, muchos hermanos, entretenida, pero donde todos eran más grandes que yo, así que compañeros de juego no había mucho. No había cable y la televisión no transmitía todo el día para niños. Podría haber perseguido a mi mamá todo el día diciéndole que estaba aburrida, pero como sabía que la respuesta iba a ser "no se-a-burra" (lo mismo que le decía su mamá y lo mismo que contesto yo ahora!), me dedicaba a investigar en el patio, a hacer inventos en la cocina y a revisar todos los libros de las repisas que alcanzaba. 

   I grew up in a house with lots of activity, many siblings, fun, but where everyone was bigger than me, so I had not much playmates. There was no cable and television didn't broadcast  all day for children. I could have chased my mom all day saying I was bored, but knowing that the answer would be some nerving spanish word riddle (the same as her mother told her and the same thing I reply now!), I spent my time then investigating in the yard, making inventions in the kitchen and reviewing all the books from the shelves that I could reach.

   Hoy es distinto, cierto? Hay muchos estímulos, la televisión siempre está, en algunas casas hay videojuegos además, computador siempre prendido y a veces dejamos que todos esos aparatos cuiden a los niños un rato. También algunas mamás llenan a sus niños de actividades extra, que muchas veces les hacen muy bien, pero pueden no dejarles tiempo vital para estar solos y aburrirse con todas sus letras. En esta época los niños no saben aburrirse y quieren estar entretenidos todo el rato, con algo fácil. Y así cómo van a tener inquietudes, inventar, hacer desmanes y aprender? Me lo vengo preguntando hace rato.

   Today is different, right? There are many extra incentives, television is always there, in some homes there are also video games, computer always turned on and sometimes we let all these devices babysit for a while. Also some moms fill their children to extracurricular activities, which often do them very well, but don't let them vital time to be alone and bored with all its letters. I've been asking myself this for a while.

    Y la respuesta es que es nuestra responsabilidad que puedan aburrirse un rato! Tenemos que cortar la televisión y el internet un rato, guardar los controles de los juegos, abrir las ventanas y dejarlos ahí, indefensos, jaja! Hay niños que no saben que hacer en lo absoluto,hasta se enojan, una pena. Entonces para que no sea tan drástico el shock podemos guiarlos un poco.

   And the answer is that it's our responsibility to be how to be bored for a while! We have to cut off the TV and internet for a while, put away games commands, open the windows and leave them there, helpless, haha​​! O quizás cosas de la despensa, con juguetes, monedas y billetes falsos, una calculadora. Un libro de arquitectura y legos....... Sin estar presentes, les guiamos un poco el juego un par de veces a la semana y les dejamos a su alcance libros y cosas que hagan andar los engranajes de la imaginación. ¿Les parece un buen plan? Así les vamos enseñando a aburrirse para que sean más inteligentes y observadores!

   Imagine you are kids, you get home from kindergarden or from school. TV won't turn on, you yell a little, no one respond and suddenly you see a basket on the table with some art books, faces clippings, scissors, glue, white sheets, crayons and something nice to eat. Or perhaps things from the pantry, toys, coins and banknotes, a calculator. A book of architecture and legos .......    Tienes ganas de renovar la casa un poco? El arte gráfico es una opción que alegra los espacios y les da personalidad. Acá tengo dos fuentes de posters e ilustraciones antiguas buenísimas! Sólo tienes que descargar las que más te gusten e imprimirlas. Si quieres que sean más grandes, para enmarcar, tienes que fijarte de guardarlas en una resolución de 300 pp o más. Los computadores mac lo hacen desde su programa Vista Previa, y para los PC hay varios programas que convierten la resolución. Son muy lindos y hay para todos los gustos, así que revísenlos con calma. 

   Feel like a little home renovation? Graphic art is a choice that cheers up spaces and gives them personality. Here I have two sources of awesome old posters and illustrations! Just download the ones you like and print. If you want them to be bigger, to frame, you have to pay attention to save them in a 300 pp resolution or more.    Celebremos porque es viernes!, aunque sea uno cualquiera siempre es motivo para celebrar. Acá ha sido una semana agitada con la entrada al colegio, el año va tomando su ritmo y rumbo, no queda más que ponerle el hombro y echar para adelante con alegría, ojalá que aprendan y crezcan mucho.

   Por acá está todo verde de verano, caluroso, pero para disfrutar de estar afuera. Las flores dieron paso a las hojas y a algunas frutas. Sería ideal llenar los espacios donde estamos de estos coloridos medallones de papel, para hacer ambiente hasta que haya que prender velas y hasta incluso que ya no ardan. Han alcanzado un catálogo muy completo de las obras de arte de los principales museos del mundo, podemos ir a conocerlos en  un par de clics, a todo detalle, alta definición. Podemos casi tocar las pinceladas de los grandes pintores, ver técnicas de color, la restauración de las obras, y la belleza de las esculturas. Si no han pasado a visitarlo ahora último, háganlo. Es una fuente buenísima de enseñanzas para los niños también.

   It's like the Street View of museums. They have reached a very comprehensive catalog of the artworks from museums around the world, we can get to know them in a couple of clicks, full detail, high definition. We can almost touch the brushstrokes of the great painters, see color techniques, restoration of the works, and the beauty of the sculptures. If you haven't visit it by now, do it. It's a very good source for teaching kids too.

   Este es un experimento de conexión global, al que podemos acceder sólo desde el navegador Chrome de Google. Nos asignan un ícono geométrico y podemos interactuar con personas y robots que están a  miles de kilómetros de nosotros. Podemos formar parte de la orquesta global, ingresando nuestros sonidos, igual que cuando empezamos a hacer música en la mesa con mucha gente. Podemos también escuchar en vivo los sonidos de otras ciudades del mundo, o ver cómo nuestro retrato es dibujado en la arena. Es entretenidísimo! Son cinco experimentos que se están presentando en tiempo real, mientras interactuamos en el museo.

   Full weeks are hard after some holidays. They are so long! But you are already here, Friday, we were missing you.

   Más vale tarde que nunca, les dejo algunas cosas. Primero la película romántica de rigor para el fin de semana. En tres minutos tiene la misma trama que el resto, pero con Edith Piaf de fondo, genial.

  Better late than never, I'm leaving here some nice stuff. First your regular chick flick for the weekend, same plot, but in three minutes, cool!

   Podemos partir con algo para colgar. Hay quienes sienten que no tienen el suficiente don como para hacer algo artístico con sus propias manos y no tienen tanto presupuesto como para ir a buscar alguna pieza por ahí. Acá les dejo dos alternativas para imprimir, un set de cámaras de fotos clásicas y unos libros de dibujos botánicos antiguos. Pueden llevar las imágenes en archivo digital a algún lugar donde impriman planos y por pocos pesos van a tener una lámina muy linda, la pueden poner con masking tape en la pared o los enmarcan.

   We can start with something to hang. Some people feel they don't have what it takes to do something artistic with their own hands and don't have much budget to go get a piece out there. Here you can find two options for printing, a set of classic cameras and books of old botanical drawings. You can take the images in a digital file somewhere where you can print floorplans and with a few pesos you will have a very cute poster to hang with the masking on the wall or frame.

   Muy simple y para jugar en familia es este tablero de gato (cómo se llama el juego en otros países?) Un poco de cinta adhesiva de colores y diez animales o figuras. Podemos hacer la selva contra los bichos, los porotos contra las lentejas, o tomar algo que tengamos y pintarlo. Armarlo ya es un juego!

   Very simple and great to play as family is this tic-tac-toe board. A bit of colored tape and ten animals or figures. We can do the jungle against bugs, lentils against beans, or take something that we already have and paint it in two colors. Putting it together is a game by itself!

Hay casas en que cada niño tiene su encargo, otras en que el que se ofrece levanta los platos y otras en que hay que ponerse bravo para que alguien haga algo por ordenar a la hora de comer. En verdad a nadie le gusta mucho ordenar, así que por qué no hacer de ese momento una fiesta y así todos quieren participar. Acá está la rutina de la familia Blair, lo hacen unas cuatro veces por semana y todos lo esperan. ¿qué buenos recuerdos de infancia se están formando! Mis niños quedaron muy entusiasmados cuando se los mostré, están pensando qué canción quieren usar.
