   El otro día haciendo orden entre las cosas de mis hijos, encontré un libro. Y mi corazón dio un salto. Lo tome con cuidado, como si fueran los 10 Mandamientos y me senté en el suelo a leerlo. Era “Are you my Mother?” de P.D. Eastman. Mi mamá me lo leía casi todas las noches antes de dormir, hacía voces especiales, y todas las noches yo la escuchaba con la misma atención preocupada de si alguna vez el pajarito no llegaba a encontrar a su mamá. Los fines de semana mi abuelo me contaba “Pascual de la Sierra” de Hernán del Solar; tenía como 100 páginas y yo me sentaba a su lado atenta hasta que llegaba al final.

   The other day, organizing my kid´s things, I found a book. And my heart skipped a beat. I took it gently, and sat on the floor to read it. It was "Are you my Mother?" by P. D. Eastman. My mom used to read it almost every night before bed, made special voices and every night I listened to her very carefully worried if the little bird would find his mother. On weekends, my grandfather read me "Pascual de la Sierra" by Hernán del Solar, the book had around 100 pages and I sat beside him closely until he got to the end.

   Ahora hago lo mismo con mis hijos, pero lamentablemente a ellos nunca les gustó “Are you my Mother?” Sus libros favoritos son “There´s a Bird On Your Head” de Mo Willems  y “¡Yo Puedo Leer Con Los Ojos Cerrados!” Del Dr. Seuss. Grande Dr. Seuss. Espero que cuando crezcan y se vuelvan a encontrar con estos libros, al igual que yo, puedan sentir y recordar su infancia. Cuando nos sentíamos seguros, queridos y calentitos en nuestras camas.

   Now I do the same with my kids, but unfortunately they never liked "Are you my Mother?" Their favorite books are "There's a Bird On Your Head" by Mo Willems and "I can Read With My Eyes Shut!" by Dr. Seuss.  Dr. Seuss rocks. I hope that when they grow up and run into these books again, like I did the other day, they can feel and remember their childhood. When we felt safe, loved and warm in our beds.

N de la R: Yo vibraba con "Los Secretos de Catita", de Marcela Paz y con una colección de cuentos clásicos, de tapas negras, lomo fucsia y una lámina de esas que se movían según el ángulo por el que uno los miraba, se acuerdan? alguien más los tenía?

   Seguramente en algún punto de la historia, cuando se logró domesticar el fuego en un horno, alguien empezó a hacer experimentos y a meterlo todo dentro. Y francamente casi todo queda bien si lo ponemos en la intensidad adecuada, o no? Pero hay algunas cosas que suenan igual curiosas al horno y lo que les voy a mostrar hoy puede sonar así. Para mí es recuerdo de la infancia y una delicia para los días fríos o cuando estoy sola a la hora de comer. Tiene proteínas, calor de hogar, textura divertida y dulzor para ponernos felices. Con ustedes, quesillo asado!

   Surely at some point in history, when we managed to tame the fire in an oven, someone began experimenting and put everything inside. And frankly almost everything turns out good if you put it in the right intensity, or not? But there are some things that sound odd baked and what I'm going to show you today may sound so. For me it's memories of childhood and a delight for cold days or when I'm alone at lunchtime. It has proteins, warmth of home, funny texture and sweetness to get us happy. With you, roasted fresh cheese!

   No hay duda de que el freezer es un invento increíble, que facilita la vida y nos deja acceder a muchos alimentos que si no no podríamos tener en la casa. Nos hemos acostumbrado a él como parte de la despensa, así que tenemos algunas cosas adentro siempre para ocuparlas. Una de ellas son los choclos, desgranados y en bolsa, cierto? Mucha necesidad de comprarlos en la coronta no hay. Pero en esta época del año oblígense!! Es verano, son más frescos, más ricos y además el ritual de pelarlos y sacarles los pelos es una maravilla a los ojos de los niños, que creen que salen de la mata en bolsas. Después los comemos a mascadas con mantequilla para quedar todos embetunados hasta la pera.

   Saquen las hojas y los pelos con cuidado y van a tener entretención por días. Sólo necesitan cordel, tijeras y un scripto para dibujar los detalles de estas muñecas, un clásico que no tiene tiempo. Quien sabe quién las inventó, debe haber sido una exclusividad del nuevo continente cuando llegó Colón. Dejen volar la imaginación!!

   Take out the leaves and the hairs carefully and you will have entertainment for days. Just need string, scissors and a sharpie to draw the details of these dolls, a classic that is timeless. Who knows who invented them, must have been an exclusivity of the new continent when Columbus arrived. Let your imagination fly!

Vale la pena verlo y mostrárselo a los niños.
Worth watching and showing it to the kids.

   Esto era típico de las tardes con amigas en la casa, a esa edad en que algunas están creciendo para arriba y otras ya para el lado, esa edad en que uno tiene mucha hambre. Dejábamos la bandeja arriba del refrigerador para que se enfriara y para que los hermanos hombres no la encontraran antes, pero nunca alcanzábamos a esperar todo el tiempo necesario, terminábamos comiendo de la fuente a cucharadas. 

   This was a classic of those afternoon with girlfriends at home, at that age where some of us were growing up and others to the side, that age when we were so very hungry. We used to leave the tray on top of the refrigerator to cool, trying to hide it from our brothers, but we couldn't ever wait all the time we were suposed to, so ended up eating spoonfuls from the tray.

   A estas alturas de la vida la receta ha evolucionado un poco, con más sabores. Y ahora la hago para regalar, con comerme un par me basta, si no me daría un shock de glicemia. Claros síntomas de la edad, o no? Jajaja! El hecho es que ahora estas calugas o toffees de leche condensada no tienen nada que envidiarle a las de tienda fina, son muy fáciles de hacer y duran hasta dos meses en un lugar fresco y seco.

   At this point in life the recipe has evolved a bit, with more flavors. And now I make them as a gift, I eat a couple and I'm done, if not I could enter a shock of glycemia. Clear signs of age, aren't they? Hahaha! The fact is that now these condensed milk caramels or toffees have nothing to envy to the fancy store ones, they are very easy to make and last up to two months in a cool, dry place.
