Michael venía de familia de artesanos, pero no siguió con la curtiembre de su papá, lo suyo era la carpintería. Y también la creatividad. Haciendo pruebas, dio con una técnica que revolucionó la factura de muebles en el momento preciso, justo cuando la producción industrial podía hacer de ella un éxito. Vio toda la potencialidad en la suave y liviana madera de haya, la impregnó de pegamento y la dobló al calor del vapor. El resultado: una silla de estilo, liviana y única, además de a buen precio. Feria tras feria las llevó a vender, hasta que conoció al príncipe del Imperio Austro-Húngaro, su admirador! y él se lo llevó a Vienna con su mujer y sus once hijos, desde donde llenó al mundo con cientos de sus diseños, en haya, con junco, todos salían desde la fabrica con su nombre: Thonet.

He saw all the potential in the soft light beech wood, impregnated it with glue, and bent it to hot steam. The result: a style chair, light and unique, and with fair price. Trade show after trade show, took them to sell, until he met the prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, his admirer! and he took him to Vienna with his wife and eleven kids, from where he filled the world with hundreds of his beech designs, sometimes including reed; they all came from the factory with his name: Thonet.

   Hoy la marca sigue viva, con sus diseños y renovándose constantemente. La silla nº14, la "silla de cafetería" es un clásico que nunca va a pasar de moda, las hemos visto tanto y todos tenemos algún recuero de ella: en el comedor de los abuelos, en el escritorio de la mamá. Las sillas Thonet son tendencia y además una inversión que vale la pena. Las pueden encontrar en muchas partes y si van por ellas a una feria de antigüedades, siempre revisen que los tornillos estén bien firmes, así les van a durar para siempre. The nº 14 chair, the "cafe chair" is a classic that will never go out of style, we've seen it so much and we all have some memories of it: in the dining room of our grandparents, at Mom's desk. Thonet chairs are now a trend, plus a worthwhile investment.
