Está visto que las buenas personas siempre tratan de ser mejores, cierto? Buscan aprender cosas nuevas, mejorar sus mañas y ser mejores en lo que hacen. Nosotros también podemos hacerlo, tal como las personas a las que admiramos, y la tecnología nos puede dar siempre una mano. Hoy vamos a ver dos aplicaciones que nos pueden ayudar.

It's well known that good people always try to be better, right? They try to learn new skills, to improve their deficiency and become better at what they do. So can we, just like the people we admire, and technology can always give us a hand. Today we will look at two apps that can help us.

La primera es Habit List, que nos ayuda a llevar registro de nuestros propósitos de todo tipo, con listas, tareas diarias, recordatorios, estadísticas y todo. Es una aplicación muy flexible, que puede guardar todos nuestro progresos.

The first one is Habit List, which helps us keep track of our goals of all types, with lists, daily tasks, reminders, statistics and all we need. It's a very flexible application, that can keep all our progress.

Y como ya sabrán, desde la semana pasada está disponible Office para dispositivos móviles IOS y Android. Podemos hacer presentaciones, textos o planillas en cualquier lugar, generando un archivo que después podremos ver y revisar en cualquier computador. Súper práctico para aprovechar el tiempo. Por el momento la podemos descargar y probar gratis, luego se va a cobrar una subscripción para usarlo, así que es el momento para ver si nos facilita la vida.

And as you may know, since last week Office is available for iOS and Android mobile devices. We can make presentations, texts or spreadsheets anywhere, creating a file that then we can look and check on any computer. Super convenient to help us use our time. For now we can download and try it for free, after awhile we'll have to pay a subscription to use it, so it's the right time to see if it can make our life easier.

Por acá siempre estamos buscando recetas nuevas, para probar otras cosas, jugar un poco y variar el menú, seguramente ustedes también. Uno de los sitios que nos ayudan es foodie.com, que reúne las recetas de varios blogs y páginas asociadas a Glam Media. Siempre vale la pena darse una vuelta, pero ahora los podemos tener en nuestro teléfono o tabletas con una nueva aplicación gratis, Foodie, que junta en formato de revista digital varias recetas según la época del año o un tema en común, por ejemplo: cosechas de verano, vuelta a clases, cumpleaños y más. Quizás lo más interesante es la revista de recetas libres de gluten, que a veces son tan escasas, todas de Cafe Johnsonia. Es un súper buen recurso, las recetas son sencillas, con medidas habituales (tazas y cucharadas, no gramos ni onzas) y las instrucciones simples, además de preciosas fotos; si les gusta la cocina, no se la pierdan!

Around here we're always looking for some new recipes, to try something new, play a little and mix the menu a bit, I bet you do too. One of our go-to site is foodie.com, which gathers many recipes from blogs and sites associated to Glam Media. It's worth a tour anytime, but now we can have them in our phone or tablet with a free app, Foodie, it gathers as digital mags lots of recipes following a season or subject, for instance: summer harvest, back to school, parties and more. Maybe the most interesting one is the gluten free mag from Cafe Johnsonia, those recipes aren't always handy. It's a great resource, recipes are simple, with regular measurements (not millimeters or grams) and directions are easy, plus beautiful photos; if you enjoy cooking, don't miss it!

Además, pueden revisar FoodieTV, otra aplicación de el mismo origen, pero que quiere mostrar en mini documentales semanales qué y cómo comemos, los orígenes, las técnicas. Son unos videos muy bien hechos y elegidos.

You can check FoodieTV app too, another one from the same developers, that wants to show with weekly short-documentaries what and how we eat, the origins, the techniques. Those are some very neat and well curated videos.

Sabían que los teléfonos y tabletas Apple tienen un modo para niños? Sí! Les ponemos un juego o aplicación y lo mantiene ahí, no se pueden cambiar sin poner una clave y además podemos bloquear que compartan a través de e-mail o que accedan a las fotos, podemos fijar el volumen, el tiempo de juego. Así evitamos que nos borren lo que no queremos, que compren otras cosas por error o que se pasen del rato prudente de juego, buenísimo! Es un hecho de la causa que a ellos les encanta jugar y que a nosotros nos sirve para hacer más llevaderas las esperas o para mantenerlos ocupados en momentos de crisis, cierto?

Did you know that Apple phones and tablets have a kids mode? They do! We set them a game or app and keeps it there, it can't be changed without entering a password and we can also lock sharing through e-mail or editing photos, we can set the volume, or play time. That way we avoid to have what we do not want deleted, buying other things by mistake or to spend too much time playing, great! It's a fact that they love to play with them and is a goos way for us to make waiting time less hard or to keep them busy in the middle of crisis, isn't it?

Está un poco escondido, así que tienen que seguir las siguientes instrucciones:

ajustes -> general -> accesibilidad -> acceso guiado (aprendizaje) -> activar el acceso guiado, definir una clave distinta y activar la función rápida

It's a little hidden, so you have to follow the directions:

adjust -> general -> accessibility -> guided access (learning) -> activate guided access, define a different pass code and activate fast access

Para usarlo, hacen tres clicks en el botón redondo y les van a aparecer las opciones. También pueden hacer círculos sobre la parte de la pantalla que quieren bloquear (por ejemplo, si quieren que vean fotos, pero no las borren, hacen un círculo sobre el basurero) y esa parte de la pantalla no va a reaccionar al tacto. Una vez que estén listos, aprietan iniciar. Para cambiar la configuración o la aplicación, o para finalizar, hay que apretar de nuevo tres veces el botón redondo, poner la clave y listo. Suena difícil? Es cosa de práctica y bien la vale para que puedan jugar sin que perdamos nuestros datos!

Pucha que estuvo bueno este larguísimo fin de semana, o no? Deliciosas vacaciones nacionales, pero pasaron cosas también. El 18 vio la luz el nuevo sistema operativo para dispositivos móviles Apple. Para todos los que tienen aparatos compatibles, es un cambio que vale la pena hacer. Funciona como un fluido donde las pantallas se deslizan según las ocupamos. Se añadieron funciones nuevas muy prácticas y el diseño es claro y moderno, quizás un poco brillante para algunos, pero uno se acostumbra rápido.

On the 18th we could start enjoying the new operative system for Apple mobile devices. For everyone with a compatible device it's a worthy change. It works like a fluid, where screens slide while we use them. Some new and practical functions were added and design is clear and modern, yet a bit bright for some people, but you get used to it fast enough.

La primera consideración es que los archivos para ejecutar e instalar el sistema ocupan 3GB, o sea en el caso de mi escuálido teléfono es casi un quinto de su memoria total, tendría que haber borrado muchísimas cosas para poder hacerlo por wifi. La solución a ese problema es hacerlo a través de la conexión USB al computador, vía iTunes, que también se actualizó. Así el computador es el que guarda los archivos y no tenemos que borrar nada de nuestro teléfono o tableta.

La recomendación es desactivar el centro de control en la pantalla de inicio bloqueada desde ajustes.
